WIP Wednesday

Not too much sewing this week.

I've added a couple more Great Granny blocks.
I now have a grand total of four.  Woohoo!

Once I finally sit to sew, these blocks are really easy and go together quickly.  There's a lot of chain piecing, which I find very efficient. I'd like to make this a good sized lap quilt, so I think I'll need 20 blocks.

I've also worked on my Rose Star blocks inspired by Self Sewn.  The hardest part for me is picking out the fabric. I need to stop choosing pinks, blues and greens. I think I need to add some purples to my stash.  These blocks are very relaxing to stitch together.  I still don't know how many I'll need or how I'm going to set them.

I purchased this lovely fabric at a quilt show earlier this month.

My plan is to make some potholders or mug rugs for Halloween.  Let's see if I can actually get them done.

You can take it with you

Not much sewing has been taking place this week.  I did manage to finish this nifty clutch that's perfect for taking your sewing supplies out and about.

I made a couple of these for 2 of my sisters as Christmas gifts last year.  My daughter asked for one for her birthday.  She chose the Oceanica fabric from her stash.

The pattern is based on one I found in the Fall 2010 issue of Stitch magazine. There are 4 pockets (or however many you want) and a zipper compartment. The original pattern called for 3 snaps to keep the flap closed.  I really dislike using snaps so I decided to add a cord and button to keep it closed.  This method allows for some adjustment in closing it depending on what's in the clutch.

I also added a flap that goes across the pockets.  This keeps the items from falling out if it gets turned upside down.
My plan is to make this in a larger size with maybe a few more features.  This one measures about 9 1/2" x 18" when open and about 5" x 9" when closed.

On another note, I did manage to finally get my first Great Granny block finished.  Yipee.
Only 19 more to go.

Tumbler Quilt Finished

Finally finished the tumbler quilt.  I purchased a fat quarter pack earlier this year when our guild visited Sew Fresh Fabrics as part of our monthly meeting.  I had been admiring this fabric for a while.

The quilt wasn't too difficult to put together.  I only had to rip out a few seams.

The back is also Echo.  I used some of the scraps to create a row across the middle.
I should have taken some better photos, but it was so hot in the sun that all I could think of was getting back inside.

The Queen and I

In the spirit of the Olympics, my friend, the Queen, has joined me for a little sewing.
She's solar/light activated.  Her little hand does the royal wave when I turn the lamp on.  She's so cute.

Blocks #1 and #2 from the Fat Quarter Shop BOM Designer Mystery block are both finished.
Block 1
Block 2

I'm really liking the fabric.  The instructions for the blocks are easy to follow.  Both of these blocks came together very quickly.

I've also been working on hand sewing while watching the games.

Eventually these will be a scrappy quilt.   I enjoy working on them and it gives me a chance to get rid of some scraps. I need about 82 more units.  I'll probably still be working on them during the next Olympics.
